Do you remember LA Ink? A tattoo-based reality TV show that aired on TLC years ago? Kat Von D was a star in that show, which ran for four seasons straight.
It was the last time I saw or heard of Kat Von D…. until I became vegan and began receiving notifications on my newsfeed about vegan celebrities. Not only is Kat Von D an extraordinary tattoo artist, but I’ve also recently found out she’s a special human being.
Her contribution towards animal rights is so admirable that she was awarded the “Compassion in Action Award” by Farm Sanctuary in 2016. It was also in that year that she made the following announcement: her brand, Kat Von D Beauty was going to be reformulated, converting the entire product line into a vegan-friendly line. Did she stick to what she had promised? Let’s find out.
So, Is Kat Von D Beauty Vegan?
Yes, Kat Von D Beauty is a vegan and cruelty-free brand. In fact, not only have they reformulated their entire product line, but they have also added “vegan” to the brand name.
Kat Von D Beauty is now called Kat Von D Vegan Beauty.
Akin to other “cruelty-free” brands, while Kat Von D Beauty had a wide range of vegan products, there were a few that contained ingredients like beeswax and carmine. But not anymore.
If you decide to purchase from Kat Von D Vegan Beauty, you can expect 100% vegan products.
Kat Von D Beauty Is PETA-Approved
Being 100% vegan, it’s no wonder that Kat Von D is also cruelty-free.
They don’t always go hand in hand but brands that are vegan are always cruelty-free, which is not always the case when it’s the other way around.
Cruelty-free brands are generally committed to never conduct animal testing, and neither deal with suppliers that do so. In addition, they don’t commission third-parties to conduct animal testing, and they also don’t sell products in countries where animal testing is required by law.
However, not every brand that claims to be cruelty-free actually adheres to these rules.
That’s why when you’re in doubt, you should look for brands that are actually certified cruelty-free, preferably by organizations such as Leaping Bunny and Cruelty-Free International.
Because Kat Von D Beauty is 100% vegan, it’s highly unlikely that they’re breaking any rules.

Top 2 Vegan Recommendations in 2021
- This is hands down our favorite vegan supplement. It’s not your typical multivitamin because it was created from vegans to vegans. It contains vitamin B12, vitamin D, and the Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA & EPA). These ingredients are delivered in the right doses, so that you never have to worry about a potential deficiency in the future. Feel free to read my review on the supplement as well.
- Our second recommendation is this amazing vegan starter kit. It is actually a bundle with 9 e-books that will help you lead a healthy, vegan lifestyle. It has great advice, and it includes print-outs and checklists that will allow you to easily put theory into practice, particularly if you’re new to the vegan lifestyle. This is a recommendation I’ve also included in my essential vegan products page as well.
