Ingredients to Look For in Testosterone Boosters

It’s not unusual to see companies market certain ingredients as miracle ingredients, but once you have a closer look and evaluate the actual evidence, there’s nothing to sustain it.
The ingredients we will share with you below have been listed on the basis that they contain some amount of evidence that confirms their effectiveness in raising testosterone levels.
Tribulus Terrestris is a rather controversial ingredient amongst researchers, particularly in how it exactly operates in the body.
However, what researchers seem to know is that it doesn’t increase testosterone per se (or a significant increase, at least), but it increases libido and sexuality by stimulating the anterior pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH), which is in a way responsible for producing testosterone. Fenugreek is considered a libido-enhancing ingredient.
But more recently, it’s been deemed to increase testosterone. And the primary compounds in Fenugreek (called furostanolic saponins) are what is pointed to as the reason why fenugreek causes an increase in testosterone. Still, researchers haven’t determined that in human studies.
One of the most comprehensive studies tested two groups of 15 college men over an eight-week period suggests that fenugreek may reduce the enzymes that convert testosterone into estrogen.
The two groups performed resistance training four times a week, but only one of the groups received 500 mg of fenugreek per day.
Free and total testosterone levels increase in the group receiving fenugreek, whilst the group that didn’t receive fenugreek experience a declined in testosterone. Also, those taking fenugreek experienced a greater increase in fat loss and strength.
There was also another study that examined fenugreek’s effect on sexual function and quality of life. Fenugreek was given to 60 healthy men between 25 and 52 years old with either 600mg of fenugreek or a placebo pill every day for six weeks.
Those taking fenugreek reported an increase in strength and experience different benefits in varying proportions: including an increase in libido, sexual performance, energy levels, and improved well-being.
D-Aspartic Acid is a natural amino acid that can boost low testosterone levels.
Research suggests that it does so due to the release of certain hormones such as the follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone.
The luteinizing hormone makes the Leydig cells in the testes produce testosterone.
In other words, D-Aspartic Acid may work by actually stimulating hormones that help in the production of testosterone, but at the same time, across different studies we found, it seems to be helpful in individuals with low testosterone levels and not people with normal testosterone levels.
Ashwagandha, also referred to as Withania somnifera, is an herb used in ancient Indian medicine.
It’s primarily used as an adaptogen to help with the reduction of stress and anxiety, but certain studies suggest the ingestion of ashwagandha has led to an increase in testosterone levels in men, as well as an increase in exercise performance, strength, and fat loss.
However, this is likely an indirect result of cortisol reduction.
Cortisol, also called the “stress hormone” is a catabolic hormone. In other words, its job is to break down the cells in the body and convert them into energy, which may have a detrimental impact on muscle growth, which is also one of testosterone’s primary functions.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble hormone produced in the skin when exposed to sunlight, and its active form functions as a steroid hormone.
Large portions of the world population live in areas or have lifestyles that diminish exposure to sunlight, as a result, levels of vitamin D are lower.
One study found a close correlation between low vitamin D levels and low testosterone levels, and also found out that participants that spent more time in the sunlight (which leads to higher vitamin D levels) experienced an increase in testosterone levels.
In fact, increasing your vitamin D stores may not only increase testosterone levels, but it may also lead to other related health benefits, such as sperm quality.

And it’s not unusual to take certain ingredients on their own, especially if you have low levels of certain vitamins or minerals like Vitamin D or Zinc. Still, we find that formulation like the ones asserted in this is way more effective than standalone ingredients.
Make sure that when searching for a testosterone booster, you pick one that contains at least some of the ingredients we have mentioned.
Also, keep a close eye out on certain ingredients, namely the capsules that might contain gelatine (which is usually derived from pigs), and vitamin D3 (which might be derived from lanolin).
The three options we have included in this article were the most promising and transparent we came across, thus why we’ve decided to only include two options. It’s not easy, in such an industry, to find products that don’t seem shady or unrevealing.
