Oftentimes it can be difficult to have a fulfilling vegan meal at a non-vegan restaurant.
It’s common to find restaurants (or fast food chains) that only have a salad available, which is often a preview of a lackluster experience. Granted, there are places with a wide variety of toppings available, and that allows you to have a more savory salad.
But rare are the occasions in which you can find a restaurant with legitimate vegan alternatives.
Fortunately, Denny’s is a restaurant with vegan options that are both varied and delicious.
Here are the vegan options Denny’s has on their menu:
- Beyond Burger Patty (100% vegan)
- Fit Fare Veggie Skillet (without eggs)
- Hearty Breakfast Skillet (without sausage, eggs, or cheese)
- Santa Fe Skillet (without chorizo, eggs, or cheese)
- Supreme Skillet (without sausage, eggs, or cheese)
- Bread (brioche bun, whole-wheat bread, wheat English muffin, multigrain bun, french toast with no eggs, flour tortilla)
- Toppings (lettuce, tomato, red onions, mushrooms, avocado, pickles, jalapeno, etc)
- Sides (hash brown, french fries, seasoned fries, red-skinned potatoes, house salad with no cheese, baked potatoes with no butter, oatmeal with no milk, grits with no milk, mixed fruit cup, sauteed zucchini and squash, broccoli)
- Dressings or Sauces (jellies and jams, all syrups, balsamic vinaigrette, French dressing, Italian dressing, bbq sauce, ketchup, mustard, etc)
Not all of these options are originally vegan, but with a few adjustments, you can turn them into a savory vegan option. To show you how to do that, let’s look at each one in more detail below.
In fact, let’s start with the most important item on the menu.
Denny’s Went Vegan With The Beyond Burger
In 2019, Denny’s added to their menu the revolutionary Beyond Burger patty that is 100% plant-based and suitable for vegans. This instantly made Denny’s a vegan-friendly restaurant.
The patty is made from pea protein isolates, rice protein, mung bean protein, canola oil, coconut oil, potato starch, apple extract, sunflower lecithin, and pomegranate powder. One patty contains 270 kilocalories, 20g of protein, 20g of fat, and one gram of salt. Compared to meat, the content is pretty similar but it contains significantly more salt.
Due to the number of ingredients and processes involved, it is considered an ultra-processed food so it’s not to be regarded as healthy even though it’s plant-based and free from genetically modified ingredients.
That is to say, it’s not healthy if you’re eating it on a day to day basis.

We have the vegan patty, now we need the bread.
At Denny’s, you can find two types of bread that are commonly used in burgers.
The brioche bun and the whole-wheat bread.
Unlike some fast-food chains, the brioche bun at Denny’s does not contain eggs, which is an ingredient that is typically used for this type of bread. In fact, if you check for a brioche bun recipe, most of them will contain eggs. Denny’s brioche bun recipe is vegan.
If you’d rather have a “healthier” type of bread, you can choose the whole-wheat bread, which is essentially less processed than the brioche bun.
Denny’s also has other forms of bread, including the wheat English muffin, the multigrain bun, the french toast (no eggs), and one that is also closely related to the bread family: the flour tortilla.
However, the brioche bun and whole wheat bread are, in my opinion, the best options.
Denny’s also has a decent selection of vegan-friendly toppings.
My favorite topping is the avocado. I believe a few slices of avocado are complementary to any sandwich, and the Beyond Burger is no exception.
If you don’t particularly enjoy avocado, there are also other options you can add:
- red onions
These are options you can typically find in sandwich or burger restaurants.
A good burger must have a good sauce.
Here are Denny’s available sauces, dressings, and spreads:
- BBQ sauce
- French & Italian Dressing
- Balsamic Vinaigrette
You can order a Beyond Burger with BBQ sauce or Ketchup, as those are typically the sauces that combine the best with its ingredients. Mustard is also a decent option.
Denny’s also offers a decent variety of sides, including:
- French fries
- Seasoned fries
- Hash browns
- Red-skinned potatoes
- House salad (no cheese)
- Oatmeal (order with water)
- Grits (order with water)
- Mixed fruit cup
- Sauteed zucchini and squash
If you’re already going with the Beyond Burger, why not lose yourself even further by ordering some french fries? I know it’s unhealthy, but it’s not every time you can eat a plant-based burger at a restaurant that predominantly sells meat-based burgers.
Denny’s Other Vegan Options
Fit Fare Veggie Skillet
Denny’s Fit Fare Veggie Skillet is a combination of seasoned red-skinned potatoes, fire-roasted bell peppers & onions, mushrooms, and broccoli topped with two egg whites scrambled with spinach and grape tomatoes. This dish is also served with a side of salsa.
Obviously, the dish isn’t vegan, but you can make it vegan by asking them to remove the two egg whites used in the confection. It’s a healthier alternative to the Beyond Burger.
Hearty Breakfast Skillet
The Hearty Breakfast Skillet is essentially sausage combined with seasoned red-skinned potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and fire-roasted bell peppers and onions served on a hot skillet. It’s also topped with cheddar cheese and two egg whites.
You can make it vegan by removing the sausage, the cheddar cheese, and the two egg whites.
Considering the ingredients used, I’d stick to the Fit Fare Veggie Skillet since it contains an additional three vegan-friendly ingredients (broccoli, spinach, and grape tomatoes).
Also, keep in mind that you can always add ingredients that you may find fit (such as avocado).
Santa Fe Skillet
The Santa Fe Skillet contains crumbled chorizo sausage, fire-roasted bell peppers, and onions, mushrooms, and seasoned red-skinned potatoes. It’s also topped with cheddar cheese and two egg whites.
It’s pretty similar to the Hearty Breakfast Skillet but chorizo is used instead. You can order it vegan by removing the chorizo, the cheddar cheese, and the two egg whites.
The Supreme Skillet is yet another similar dish.
It comes with grilled sausage, fresh spinach, fire-roasted bell peppers & onions, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, and seasoned red-skinned potatoes. It’s also topped with cheddar cheese and two egg whites. To make it vegan, you have to remove the animal-based ingredients.
Like in many restaurants, at Denny’s you can also find a wide variety of beverages.
Denny’s offers the following beverages:
- Hot Herbal Tea
- Iced Teas
- Soft Drinks (7up, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Ice Tea, Tango, etc)
- Juices (Apple, Cranberry, and Fresh Orange Juice)
- Fruit Shoots (Apple & Blackcurrant, Hydro, Orange, and Summerfruits)

Summary: Denny’s Is a Vegan-Friendly Restaurant
Denny’s can be considered a vegan-friendly restaurant due to the fact they have a good selection of vegan options, including the Beyond Burger patty.
They also have an assortment of standalone vegetables and fruits that can perfectly complement the Beyond Burger patty and allow you to create a fulfilling plant-based burger.
Additionally, you can also find other options like the Fit Fare Veggie Skillet that can be converted to plant-based by removing or replacing one or two ingredients.
