The Old Spaghetti Factory is an Italian-style restaurant that has been around since 1963 with the intent of serving affordable 3-course meals. You can find locations in the United States and Canada owned by separate companies, which means the standards may change depending on where you live.
At Old Spaghetti Factory you can find some vegan Italian classics, such as:
- Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce
- Spaghetti with Mushroom Sauce
- Red Thai Curry Linguine
- Minestrone Soup
In addition, you can also find side dishes like the Garden Salad and Broccoli, as well as vegan-friendly beverages such as flavored lemonades.
If you’re vegan and love pasta, the Old Spaghetti Factory is a good place to visit.
Below I’m going to speak about these vegan options in more detail.
Old Spaghetti’s Factory Vegan Options
Earlier we said that the Old Spaghetti Factory servers affordable 3-course meals.
The Minestrone Soup is essentially the first part of that 3-course meal, and it’s frankly the best vegan option you can choose at the moment. It’s a thick soup of Italian origin made with vegetables.
In fact, it’s made with the following ingredients:
- Vegetable stock
- And tomatoes.
The traditional recipe (or at least, a different variation of this recipe) is topped with cheese, so you need to ensure that’s not actually the case when you order.
Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce
The Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce is their version of the famous Italian recipe that is prepared using premium vine-ripped tomatoes and an original spice blend.
According to the information I found on their website, the marinara sauce recipe is prepared using only fresh plant-based ingredients. It’s entirely made from scratch using fresh onions, carrots, tomatoes, and garlic sautéed in olive oil as well as Italian seasonings.
The dish is solely comprised of spaghetti and marinara sauce, therefore it’s a poor option nutritionally. To make this dish a bit richer, you should consider adding a side of broccoli or Garden salad.
Spaghetti with Mushroom Sauce
The Spaghetti with Mushroom Sauce is a similar option to the one above but it includes fresh button mushrooms that are cooked until they become tender before being blended with marinara sauce.
It’s a richer alternative than the Spaghetti with Marinara Sauce but it’s still lacking nutritionally. To make this dish more whole, you should also consider adding broccoli or a side of Garden salad.
Red Thai Curry Linguine
The Red Thai Curry Linguine is another pasta-based dish that contains a type of pasta called Linguine, which is quite similar to fettuccine and trenette in appearance.
Next to the pasta (or on top), you will find a delicious light red curry and coconut milk mixed with sauteéd peppers topped with fresh cilantro. Compared to the spaghetti dishes, it does seem to offer more consistency nutrient-wise and it does look seem to be less “naked”.
While it’s not one of the main courses, the Garden Salad can be a good entreé or a suitable side dish to complement one of the aforementioned main courses.
The salad is essentially a garden mix topped with cucumbers, red onions, red and yellow peppers, and cherry tomatoes. To make it more flavorful, you can use their Low Fat Sesame Dressing, which seems to be the only one suitable for vegans.
The other available dressings, apparently, are only suited to ovo-lacto-vegetarians.
Doesn’t Old Spaghetti Factory Have Vegan Bread?
According to information obtained from one of the representatives at Old Spaghetti Factory, the bread products are produced by bakeries in each market with variations in ingredients.
As a result, you may find come across bread that is vegan in certain locations, but also bread that is not vegan in other locations. To dispel any doubts, make sure you ask the staff at the restaurant you’re visiting.
Vegan-Friendly Beverage Options
If you want a healthy beverage, then I suggest you try some of their flavored lemonades.
These lemonades are made with 100% natural food pureés with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. They have an array of different flavors available, including kiwi, strawberry, raspberry, mango, and peach.
Fentiman’s “Botanically Brewed” Ginger Beer
Fentiman’s Ginger Beer — although not a healthy option — it’s a beer made from premium ginger root, juniper, yarrow extracts, and cane sugar. It’s brewed between 7 to 10 days so that the full flavor can actually be extracted from its ingredients.
Some people still question whether or not cane sugar can be considered vegan (particularly in the United States), but that depends on Fentiman’s sugar suppliers.

Emiliana Novas Carmenere
Emiliana Novas Carmenere is a rich red wine imported from Chile that is grown with organic and biodynamic agricultural methods, which use no animal by-products.
According to Barnivore, every Emiliana wine is vegan.
In fact, here is information Emiliana has shared about their fining process:
“For our fining process, we used betonies. For the filtering, we used for our wines 4 to 6-micron filter and we do 3 to 4 racking back to get the big sediments out of the barrels. Under the IMO regulation, we cannot use any type of animal product such as albumins, gelatins, etc. Honey and milk are products that are not used in winemaking.”
This is a reply to an email Barnivore sent to determine whether or not Emiliana wines are vegan.
Apart from the options we’ve mentioned above, you’re also able to find popular soft drinks such as the following:
- Diet Coke
- and Dr. Pepper
As well as other drinks like Lemonade, Raspberry Iced Tea, Hot Tea, and Coffee.
Summary: Old Spaghetti Factory Has Some Vegan Options
What’s fundamentally awesome about the Old Spaghetti Factory is that you’re able to have a vegan entreé (the Mitrione soup), and then you also have three main courses to choose from.
These three main courses are not particularly well-balanced, but you’re able to improve upon them by adding a side salad or a small plate of broccoli (WITHOUT butter or cheese).
Unfortunately, they don’t have any desserts that might be suitable for vegans, but they do have vegan-friendly beverages that you can order with your meals.
Two Recommendations For Your Vegan Journey
Allow me to make two quick recommendations that have helped me in my vegan journey by ensuring I’m always healthy and deficiency-free.
- The first recommendation is my favorite vegan multivitamin supplement. It was created with vegans in mind. It contains vitamins B12, D, and Omega 3. In other words, it contains nutrients that vegans are generally low in.
- The second recommendation is this amazing vegan starter kit that is actually a bundle with 9 e-books that will help you lead a healthy, vegan lifestyle without running into any dietary deficiencies. It has great advice, and it includes print-outs and checklists that will make the theory easy to implement. This is something I’ve included in my recommended products page as well.
