Firehouse Subs is an American restaurant chain formed in Jacksonville, Florida by two firefighter brothers: Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, who have opened over 1,200 restaurants across many locations, including 46 states within the United States, and other countries such as Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
The menu features specialty subs, salads, and other seasonal items. The subs typically feature meat and cheese, on toasted sub rolls, and are often served with a mix of vegetables and condiments. Needless to say, Firehouse Subs is not a vegan restaurant, but there’s probably something you can eat to deceive your stomach.
Firehouse Subs has a build your own sandwich option, so we’re going to break down which vegan-friendly ingredients you can order from the menu.
Vegan Sandwich Options
Firehouse Subs has one vegetarian sandwich that can be made vegan. The sandwich is called “Veggie” and comes with several ingredients, including bell peppers, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed and raw onions, tomato, mayonnaise, deli mustard, Italian dressing, provolone, cheddar, and Monterey Jack.
To make it vegan, you must remove the mayonnaise and the cheeses. You can also replace the mayonnaise with one of the vegan condiments or dressings we have listed below.
If you don’t want the “Veggie” sandwich, you can also opt to create your own sandwich with many of the vegan-friendly ingredients we mention in the next section.
Firehouse Subs has two types of bread: white and wheat bread. According to their allergen menu, only the white bread is suitable for vegans because the wheat bread contains honey, which some vegans avoid.
