The reason I’ve included Naked Nutrition is that they create supplements under a unique premise— their supplements are fully manufactured in the USA, and the ingredients are not hidden behind a proprietary formula, which allows us to understand whether or not the supplement is viable. 

With that being said, their l-glutamine is not as cheap as the one by Bulk Supplements, and they basically “force” you to buy 1 kilogram of product, even though you might want to buy less product. 

Transparent Labs L-Glutamine

Transparent Labs is a premium brand that often attempts to tweak its formulas to provide extra benefits to its consumers— namely by mixing different ingredients instead of offering only one ingredient. 

That is not the case with their l-glutamine supplement but they’ve attempted to do something different— their supplement contains fermented l-glutamine. 

Their theory is that by fermenting l-glutamine, its bioavailability will increase, which means you can better absorb a serving of l-glutamine.

However, there are no scientific studies that demonstrate that this is what effectively happens with fermented l-glutamine— even though it does happen with regular foods, and they are more digestible.

Fermented foods are also known to improve gut health and as a result, improve your general health, but I’m not sure that would be the case with fermented l-glutamine.  

Therefore, to be on the safe side, the most sound option would be to go for the most simple l-glutamine form. 

What is Glutamine?

Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that is very abundant in plasma and skeletal muscle. About 60% of the total free amino acids in skeletal muscle and 20% in plasma, consists of glutamine. (Ahmadi et al. 2018)


It is considered a non-essential amino acid because our body can produce it in the skeletal muscles.

It exists in two forms, L-glutamine and D-glutamine, but it is the L-glutamine that is found in foods, supplements, and that is synthesized by our body.

In the diet, glutamine is present in plant and animal protein foods such as beef, milk, rice, corn, tofu, and eggs. A balanced diet provides glutamine and other essential and non-essential amino acids that allow for homeostasis and health maintenance. (Cruzat et al., 2018)
