Is Cocofloss Vegan and Cruelty-Free?

As the name suggests, Cocofloss is a company that specializes in the development of flossing products that help support dental health and hygiene.

However, as you might know, most regular dental floss products are coated using a property called beeswax, which is produced by bees during honey production. This, naturally, poses a problem for most vegans, plus it’s quite difficult to find brands in local stores or supermarkets that don’t use beeswax. Fortunately, Cocofloss exists.

Cocofloss has a different approach to flossing, starting with the infusion of coconut oil (hence, the name of the brand), as well as fragrant fruit oils, and a light coating of microcrystalline wax, which are all aspects that make it an especially safe brand.

What is Microcrystalline Wax?

Microcrystalline wax is a type of wax obtained by de-oiling petrolatum, as part of the petroleum refining process.

It has elastic and adhesive characteristics that relate to the non-straight chain components they contain, namely branched alkanes like isoparaffinic hydrocarbons and naphthenic hydrocarbons.

In addition, because its crystal structure is small and thin, it’s also flexible, hence why Cocofloss has effectively relied upon it to create their dental floss.

So, Is Cocofloss Vegan?

Instead of using beeswax like almost every dental floss company, Cocofloss uses microcrystalline wax which is essentially made from petroleum.

Therefore, yes, Cocofloss is a vegan brand.

Is Cocofloss Cruelty-Free?

Cocofloss is a cruelty-free brand.

This means they don’t test their products or ingredients on animals, and neither do their suppliers or any third-party laboratories. On top of that, they also don’t sell any of their products in countries where animal testing is required by law. (i.e: China)

Furthermore, Cocofloss is Leaping Bunny certified. This basically means that Cocofloss must adhere to certain criteria in order to be cruelty-free.

These criteria usually involve the following steps:

  • Installing a supplier monitoring system;
  • Supply chain checking for animal testing which includes  every manufacturer involved;
  • Adherence to a fixed cut-off date policy and acceptance of ongoing independent audits to ensure compliance with all of these aspects.

In other words, there are rules to be followed, but at the same time, you can trust that Cocofloss is a legitimate cruelty-free brand.

Are There Other Vegan Floss Brands?

If you limit your search to store near you, it might be difficult to find dental floss products. However, if you go online, you can easily find other vegan floss brands other than Cocofloss, especially in online retail stores like Amazon.

Here are a couple of vegan floss products you can check out:

Akin to Cocofloss, these are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Summary: Cocofloss is Vegan & Cruelty-Free.

Indeed, Cocofloss is both a vegan and cruelty-free brand! The brand does not use beeswax to coat the floss but uses microcrystalline wax (derived from petroleum) to achieve the same result.

In addition, because their products are manufactured in Italy, they comply with strict EU regulations on fragrance allergens and must meet the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) Standards.

In other words, Cocofloss is not only vegan and cruelty-free but is also free from toxins.
