Performance Lab is a highly reputable company based in the UK that produces a wide range of health and fitness products, including protein powders, BCAAs, Pre-Workouts, and many others.
In this particular case, we’re going to have a closer look at Performance Lab Burn, and determine if their stimulant-free, vegan-friendly fat-burning formula is an effective and justifiable option for anyone that is attempting to either lose weight or looking for a more shredded appearance.
Before we dive into that, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Supplements, in general, are not substitutes for a strict diet and exercise regimen. If you ignore those as foundations, you’ll likely be unable to reach your goals. Assuming that you want a fat burner to efficiently lose fat and weight, you need to be in a caloric deficit, which means you need to pay extra attention to the foods you’re ingesting.
Additionally, “fat burners” are generally not proven to burn fat on their own. They provide you with vitamins, minerals, and extracts that enhance that potential as long as you have the foundations of diet and exercise in place. It’s not news that these supplements have a bad reputation, but that’s often because they’re marketed as “magic pills” that will work a miracle on their own. That’s not the case and it’s important to be realistic about that.
This article will speak on the key things that you need to know about Performance Lab Burn, including the ingredients and their benefits, the dosages, and whether or not the price point can be justified by the quality of the formula.
What Does Performance Lab Sport Burn Do?
Performance Lab Sport Burn is a fat-burning supplement. It’s designed to support weight and fat loss goals by providing its customers with a stack of ingredients that promote fat breakdown and mobilization, as well as calorie-burning augmentation mid-training.
They use ingredients like ß-Hydroxy ß-Methyl butyrate, Coleus Forskohlii, Cayenne Pepper Extract, GTF Chromium, and Black Pepper Extract delivered in advanced nutrient forms.
These advanced nutrient forms increase the bioavailability of the respective nutritional elements inside each ingredient and are, by the way, reviewed for safety and toxicology by an independent panel of international reputed scientists. Both the capsules and ingredients are plant-based and prebiotic-infused and are completely suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
The manufacturers also suggest that the product can be used for “fasted” training, which is basically working out on an empty stomach. The main theory is that it allows you to burn more fat because the body doesn’t have an energy reservoir available (food), and must go for the fat.
What Makes Performance Lab Sport Burn Different?
The issue I take with most fat burning supplements (or thermogenic supplements) is the number of unscientific claims manufacturers make to convince people to purchase their products.
When you take a closer look at the formula and the scientific literature, you realize that (1) there’s a lot of mixed results, (2) the number of studies available is limited and oftentimes the methodology used for those studies isn’t the best, and (3) even though the ingredients may be the right ones, the dosages are insufficient to provide the promised benefits.
Based on what I’ve researched, however, Performance Lab Sport Burn does seem to be superior to many fat-burning supplements. They are completely transparent about the ingredients and dosages used, so it’s easy to see whether or not it’s effective.
Additionally, with this supplement, you don’t have to worry about side effects such as anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, or shakiness, which are usually common in most formulas since they contain stimulants like caffeine. This one is stimulant-free.
Again, this supplement is an ideal choice for anyone looking to avoid animal ingredients, which can’t be said for a lot of the supplements available out there.
What Are The Ingredients In Performance Lab Sport Burn?
This wouldn’t be a proper supplement review if I didn’t individually verify each ingredient and see if the scientific literature is right by the claims.
I’ve mentioned the advanced nutrient forms, but those are responsible for boosting the ingredients’ bioavailability, and although they’re useful, they’re not determining factors.
Let’s take a look at each ingredient in the Performance Lab Sport Burn:
Calcium is an essential nutrient that plays an important role in many of our body’s functions and it’s one that we’re unable to produce. Our body needs calcium to build and maintain strong bones, but also to sustain heart, muscle, and nerve function.
Most studies, unfortunately, reach the same conclusion — vegans don’t consume enough calcium.
That’s why I like this supplement because it takes into consideration that vegans, historically, don’t consume as much calcium as other dietary groups.
2. HMB (ß- Hydroxy ß-Methylbutyrate)
HMB is an active metabolite of leucine that reduces muscle protein breakdown. Approximately 5% of the dietary leucine is oxidized into HMB, which seems to be the main metabolite of leucine that can better prevent the breakdown of muscle protein.
Compared to leucine, HMB shows indications that it’s more potent on a gram to gram basis at minimizing the rate of muscle protein breakdown, but at the same time, it’s less effective than leucine when it comes to inducing muscle protein synthesis.
In other words, it makes sense that HMB is used in a fat-burning formula. Since you aim to lose weight, you want something that helps you prevent muscle loss, and not stimulate muscle gain, which is an impossible feat for anyone in a caloric deficit.
That being said, most of HMB’s human test trials are not optimally structured to assess its anti-catabolic effects. Most of the studies involve investigating the role of HMB in muscle protein synthesis, pairing both a standard diet and an exercise regimen. Still, HMB does seem to be very interesting to prevent muscle wasting during periods where muscle atrophy is accelerated, and in theory, it should also work in athletes on a calorie-restricted diet.
An effective dosage of HMB, according to evidence, should sit in the dosage range of 1-3g daily to reduce muscle loss over time. Performance Lab Sport Burn contains 1000 mcg per serving, which is equivalent to 1g.
3. Coleus Forskohlii (Forslean)
Coleus Forskohlii is a herb used in traditional medicine that is associated with boosting testosterone and inducing fat loss.
The main bioactive ingredient in this plant is forskolin. Through it, Coleus Forskohlii supplementation may increase testosterone, protect against cancer, and inflammation.
However, more research is required to fully confirm these benefits. Unfortunately, tests with this ingredient are conducted outside the human body, either through a test tube or petri dish. The effects of forskolin may be different inside the human body.
The studies available suggest that forskolin increases the cellular levels of a molecule called cyclic adenosine monophosphate. This molecule is associated with increased rates of fat loss and can increase the effects of other fat-burning compounds. That finding is interesting because forskolin, in this particular case, is being used in conjunction with other ingredients that affect fat loss.
At present, forskolin is still being researched for its testosterone boosting and fat loss effects, but the preliminary evidence available shows very promising results. Lastly, it’s important to note that Coleus Forskohlii’s optimal dose is yet to be ascertained, but 500mg a day seems to bear results.
Performance Lab Sport Burn contains 250mg in a single serving.
4. Cayenne Pepper Extract (Capsimax)
Cayenne Peppers contain a molecule called capsaicin. This molecule, which is responsible for this ingredient’s burning sensation, acts through adrenaline receptors and TRPV1 to increase heat.
According to the evidence available, capsaicin increases the amount of heat your body products, making you burn more calories per day. It creates this effect through diet-induced thermogenesis, which accelerates the metabolism.
However, this effect is small and you may build tolerance for it.
What’s more interesting about this ingredient is the fact it helps reduce hunger, helping you eat less and feel fuller for longer. Several studies are showing that capsaicin creates that effect.
5. Black Pepper Extract (BioPerine)
Performance Lab claims that the active ingredient in Black Pepper Extract (Perine), can help weight control by optimizing thermogenesis to increase energy expenditure and inhibiting adipogenesis, or the formation of new fat cells.
However, there is little evidence to prove that’s what occurs. Black Pepper Extract does have, theoretically, various benefits. But these benefits are not associated with weight loss, but with anti-inflammation, the prevention of radical damage to cells, and even improved brain function.
Certain sources like Examine.com also refers that this ingredient ingested alongside other ingredients may increase their absorption rates.
The bottom line is that this ingredient lacks sufficient research attesting its fat-burning benefits.
6. GTF Chromium
Chromium is an essential trace mineral. It regulates glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity.
Research suggests that supplementing more chromium than what the body needs does not produce reliable results, though it may produce minor benefits for those with diabetes.
GTF Chromium is essentially a form of chromium that is more bioavailable than other existing versions of chromium. In fact, GTF Chromium is absorbed into body tissues 3 times better than Chromium Picolinate, a form that is widely used by bodybuilders and athletes.
Preliminary studies suggest that supplemental chromium may contribute to weight loss and help increase muscle mass. However, such studies are not conclusive. Studies conducted more recently show improved muscle growth and a decrease in fat mass, but the amount of weight lost was not significant to suggest that chromium supplements are ideal for weight loss.
What Are The Benefits of Performance Lab Sport Burn?
Based on the ingredients we have just analyzed, I’ve detected a few ingredients that can positively impact both weight and fat loss.
More scientific data is needed for some of the claims, but the preliminary evidence does seem to be promising, and more recent studies seem to be showing exactly that.
Taking this fat-burning supplement may result in the following benefits:
- Increased testosterone and fat loss: Some of the ingredients in this formula may have a positive effect on testosterone and fat loss. For example, Coleus Forskohlii can increase the cellular levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate, which is associated with fat loss and can also increase the effects of other fat-burning compounds.
- Decreased hunger or appetite: Capsaicin (a compound present in Cayenne Pepper) has several studies that suggest it reduces hunger, which is particularly useful if your goal is to lose weight and you want to remain in a caloric deficit, consistently.
- Decreased muscle loss: In theory, the HMB in this fat-burning supplement may prevent muscle wasting, which it does in individuals with muscle atrophy.
In comparison to various other fat-burning supplements, this one does seem to have effective ingredients and avoids making exaggerated claims.
Are There Potential Side Effects?
Usually, the main issue with fat-burning supplements is linked to the inclusion of caffeine. Since Performance Lab’s Sport Burn does not contain caffeine, that won’t be an issue.
However, it’s important to understand whether or not you may be allergic to some of the ingredients in the formula. The label mentions that the product is suitable for vegans, and also emphasizes the lack of soy, egg, fish, shellfish, dairy, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, or other allergens.
The supplement is also non-GMO, non-irradiated, free of gluten, synthetic additives, artificial colors, and preservatives. Plus, it’s also been tested for banned substances.
Though, there’s a warning on the label advising the consumption of this product if you are pregnant, nursing, or under the age of 18.
The label also says that you should contact your doctor or physician before taking this supplement, especially if you harbor a medical condition, or take medication that may not be compatible with its ingredients.
How Should You Take Performance Lab Sport Burn?
Each bottle of Sport Burn contains 60 capsules, which means it’s a 30-day supply if you take the recommended information of two capsules a day. The label also says that you should take 2 capsules, 30 minutes before training on an empty stomach.
Where Can I Purchase Performance Lab Sport Burn?
The price for one bottle of Sport Burn is $50/£40/€44, according to the official Performance Lab website. They do, however, offer some steep discounts for anyone that wishes to purchase more than a single bottle at once.
This supplement can only be purchased through Performance Lab’s official website at the present, which means you won’t find it in popular retailers like Amazon or Walmart. Unfortunately, this also means we can’t check product reviews on other places other than their official website.
What Do People Say About Performance Lab Sport Burn?
Again, Sport Burn is a supplement that is solely available on its official website. This means we can’t check reviews on other trustworthy sources like Amazon, Target, or Walmart.
I’m usually wary about the reviews that appear on official websites because the manufacturer/brand has full control of what appears there. This isn’t to say that Performance Lab doesn’t play a fair game, but it would be more compelling from a consumer standpoint to find reviews in other places than the official website.
That being said, here are a few reviews we have seen from Performance Lab customers:
If you’d like reviews from external sources, I’m afraid you won’t be able to find them.
Hopefully, this short review has served you in a positive light by helping you make a more informed decision about this stimulant-free and vegan-friendly supplement.
In short, I’ve gone through the several core ingredients in Sport Burn and learned that some of them can indeed provide you with both weight and fat loss benefits. Plus, the formula this specific brand presents is transparent on all levels, including ingredient sources and dosages.

Top 2 Vegan Recommendations in 2021
- This is hands down our favorite vegan supplement. It’s not your typical multivitamin because it was created from vegans to vegans. It contains vitamin B12, vitamin D, and the Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA & EPA). These ingredients are delivered in the right doses, so that you never have to worry about a potential deficiency in the future. Feel free to read my review on the supplement as well.
- Our second recommendation is this amazing vegan starter kit. It is actually a bundle with 9 e-books that will help you lead a healthy, vegan lifestyle. It has great advice, and it includes print-outs and checklists that will allow you to easily put theory into practice, particularly if you’re new to the vegan lifestyle. This is a recommendation I’ve also included in my essential vegan products page as well.
